Hans Bock, o Velho
Pintor alemão líder
Hans Bock foi um pintor e desenhista alemão do século XVI. Ele floresceu em Basileia, onde executou vários grandes afrescos, que lhe trouxeram muita fama. Ele é descrito como um "artista extraordinariamente talentoso", o "símbolo de toda a sua época" e o "principal pintor e desenhista" em seu período da arte alemã. Bock provavelmente estava trabalhando em Basileia desde 1570; em 1572, ele pagou a admissão à guilda local de pintores. Ele recebeu a cidadania de Basileia em 18 de julho de 1572. É provável que tenha educado o jovem Joseph Heintz no desenho. De 1588 a 1591, ele cooperou com o acadêmico Basilius Amerbach na escavação do teatro romano Augusta Raurica, fornecendo ilustrações do local recém-escavado. Bock teve cinco filhos; Emanuel Bock, o Velho, Felix Bock, Hans Bock, o Jovem, Niklaus Bock e Peter Bock.
