让-维克多·贝尔坦是一位法国历史风景画家，受意大利启发，以其古典风格的细腻细节而闻名。 作为一名著名假发制作大师的儿子，他成为著名画家瓦朗谢纳的学生。1785年，他作为加布里埃尔-弗朗索瓦·多扬的学生进入皇家绘画与雕塑学院。在1785年至1793年间，他参加了多次 他本人是米夏隆、科涅、布瓦瑟利埃、柯罗、昂方坦等人的老师。1811年至1817年间，他的几部作品受委托为特里亚农宫和枫丹白露宫创作。贝里公爵和银行家雅克·拉菲特等享有盛誉的业余爱好者欣赏贝尔坦的才华，从1833年起，法国政府，特别是内政部，定期购买他的作品以丰富外省博物馆的收藏。
