馬丁·約翰遜·海德
光影沼澤與熱帶鳥
馬丁·強森·希德是一位美國畫家，以其鹽沼風景畫、海景畫以及熱帶鳥類（如蜂鳥）的描繪而聞名，同時也創作蓮花和其他靜物畫。他的繪畫風格和題材雖然源於當時的浪漫主義，但被藝術史學家認為與同時代同行有著顯著的不同。希德出生於賓夕法尼亞州的蘭伯維爾，是一名店主的兒子。他曾師從愛德華·希克斯，也可能師從湯瑪斯·希克斯。他最早的作品創作於19世紀40年代，主要是肖像畫。年輕時，他多次前往歐洲，在美國各地以流浪藝術家的身份謀生，並於1841年在費城、1843年在紐約舉辦展覽。與哈德遜河派藝術家的友誼使他對風景畫產生了興趣。1863年，他計劃出版一本關於巴西蜂鳥和熱帶花卉的畫冊，但該項目最終被放棄。此後，他多次前往熱帶地區，繼續繪製鳥類和花卉。他最著名的作品是對新英格蘭鹽沼上光影的描繪。
