Otto Gebler

Master of realistic sheep paintings

Otto Gebler was a German animal painter. Otto Gebler studied painting first at the academy in his native town and then at the Munich academy, where he was particularly close to Karl Theodor von Piloty. He primarily made sheep the subject of his studies and soon achieved such skill in characterizing this animal that he equaled the North German sheep painter Brendel, who had been regarded as an unsurpassable specialty up to that point.
