Feet O’ Jesus
1926
Aaron Douglas, the unofficial dean of the Harlem Renaissance, created this dynamic illustration titled *Feet O' Jesus* in 1926. You can see his signature style here: a tall, silhouetted figure striding through jagged waves and beams of light that look like searchlights cutting through the dark. He mixed Cubist geometry with African art motifs to create a totally new visual language for Black spiritual life. It's like seeing the rhythm of a gospel sermon translated into bold, graphic shapes, capturing a moment of divine power and movement.
