Haystacks, end of Summer

Haystacks, end of Summer by Claude Monet, 1891

Monet became absolutely obsessed with capturing the fleeting effects of light, setting up multiple canvases in a field near his home and frantically switching between them as the sun moved across the sky. In this hazy, dreamlike scene from his famous Haystacks series, humble agricultural mounds are transformed into glowing monuments of color through rapid, shimmering brushstrokes. He ended up creating over 25 variations of these simple straw piles, proving there is no such thing as a boring subject when you study nature's daily light show.
