Young Man with Hat, Bust to the Right
Step into the 17th century with this charming portrait by Cornelis Visscher, a master of the Dutch Golden Age. The young man's wide-brimmed hat is rendered with such scratchy, energetic lines that you can almost hear the chalk scraping against the paper. He looks off to the side with a serious, almost melancholic expression, typical of the thoughtful portraits from the Baroque period. Visscher came from a whole family of artists, so you could say artistic talent was in his blood—literally!
