Boy smoking

David Bles captures a moment of quiet contemplation in this lively sketch. Although titled 'Boy smoking,' the figure sports a rather impressive beard as he leans forward, pipe in hand, exhaling a cloud of smoke rendered with soft, smudged strokes. The loose, energetic lines suggest a quick study, reflecting the Romantic era's fascination with capturing character and everyday scenes in a spontaneous way.
