Christ in Limbo
Imagine the ultimate rescue mission: Christ descending into the underworld to free trapped souls. In this Neoclassical drawing by David Humbert de Superville, we see Jesus from behind, boldly striding through a dark gateway with his staff, ready to break down the doors of Limbo. The real showstopper is that bizarre, upside-down demon hovering in the corner—it looks like a gargoyle crossed with a pineapple, adding a wonderfully eerie twist to this biblical story. The artist uses incredibly fine lines and shadows to make the darkness of the underworld feel deep and ominous.
