Hunden Courtisane
Meet Courtisane, a fluffy spaniel who clearly knew they were the VIP of the Swedish royal court. Painted by David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl, the premier court artist of the late 17th century, this little dog is captured in a playful pose on a plush blue cushion with fancy gold fringe. A little tag bearing the name 'Courtisane' sits right in front, ensuring everyone knows exactly who this star is. It’s a delightful example of Baroque pet portraiture, proving that even hundreds of years ago, people were obsessed with pampering their pooches and commissioning fancy portraits of them.
