Madonna And Child Adored By Saint Francis Of Assisi
Domenico Piola throws a heavenly gathering in this dramatic Baroque piece, where Saint Francis of Assisi gets the ultimate VIP treatment: holding baby Jesus. Mary looks on gently as the saint, dressed in his humble brown robes and rosary beads, gazes up in pure adoration. Surrounding them is a chaotic cloud of chubby cherubs—some flying, some reading, and one seemingly trying to grab the baby's attention. It's a classic example of Genoese art, full of swirling movement and dark, moody lighting that makes the holy figures glow.
