Landscape Album (Nine-leaf version) P1
Dong Qichang was the ultimate art critic of the Ming Dynasty, essentially writing the rulebook on 'good taste' while painting masterpieces like this. He famously split Chinese art into Northern and Southern schools, and this misty landscape is a textbook example of his beloved Southern style—soft, rounded mountains floating in a dreamy haze. The calligraphy on the left acts as a caption where he praises the 'faint and elegant' vibe, name-dropping ancient masters to show off his encyclopedic knowledge. It’s less of a simple view and more of a visual essay on art history itself.
