Xiaoxiang Scroll - Colophon 1 - Dong Qichang
Think of this as the ultimate 'verified' stamp from a Ming Dynasty art critic! This long horizontal section features the elegant, flowing calligraphy of Dong Qichang, a massive fan of the earlier master Dong Yuan. He wrote this inscription (colophon) for Dong Yuan's famous 'Xiao Xiang Tu' (River Landscape), praising the work in a stylish 'running script' that dances across the blue-grey surface. Dong Qichang basically defined the 'Southern School' of Chinese painting and put Dong Yuan at the very top, making this text a historical love letter to his idol.
