Small Child, Walking Attempts
Watch out, world—here comes a wobbly toddler in a pleated dress and a bow, taking their very first steps! Dora Hitz captures this precious, unsteady moment with loose, energetic pencil strokes, while a faint, ghostly figure of an adult hovers just behind, ready to catch a fall. As a key figure in the Berlin Secession and German Impressionism, Hitz loved sketching these intimate, fleeting slices of daily life. The sketch feels almost like a snapshot of a baby's big milestone, frozen in graphite.
