La fuite en Egypte
1915
Edmond Tapissier captures a quiet, shadowy moment from the biblical Flight into Egypt in this 1915 piece. Instead of a grand, dramatic escape, we see the Holy Family taking a much-needed breather under the dark canopy of trees. The glowing golden halos around Mary and baby Jesus pop against the moody, deep greens and browns of the landscape, guiding your eye right to them while a donkey stands patiently nearby. It feels less like a stiff religious icon and more like a snapshot of a weary family on a long, dusty journey.
