Nude Bending

Nude Bending by Edvard Munch, 1926-1927

Edvard Munch, famous for making everyone anxious with 'The Scream,' takes a breather here with a 'Bending Nude' set against a fiery orange sky. The loose, scribbly lines and watery splashes of green and blue make the body look like it's in motion, almost dissolving into the grassy landscape below. Painted when he was in his sixties around 1926, this sketch shows a master artist playing with vibrant color and fluid form. It’s a wonderful reminder that even the kings of existential dread loved a good splash of sunshine.
