Bent Forward Female Nude
Ca 1920
Edvard Munch is famous for that screaming guy on the bridge, but here he’s doing something much quieter and surprisingly intimate in this sketch titled 'Framoverbøyd kvinneakt' (Bending Female Nude). The figure bends forward in sweeping strokes of rust-red, earthy brown, and a sudden splash of cool green, feeling like a fleeting moment captured on paper. Munch cared more about the curve of the spine and the weight of the body here than perfect anatomical details. Created around 1920, this piece shows the artist experimenting with form in a way that feels almost modern and abstract, stripping away the heavy drama of his earlier famous works to focus on pure shape and movement.
