Un groupe d'exploration
1862-1864
Edwin Forbes rode alongside the Union Army of the Potomac during the Civil War, sketching soldiers in their daily moments rather than just the glory of battle. Here, a scouting party moves cautiously through a field, their horses alert and ears pricked forward as the lead rider guides them. Forbes worked as a special artist for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, capturing the gritty reality of reconnaissance missions instead of heroic charges. These raw sketches were later transformed into famous etchings, giving the public a rare, unvarnished window into the war's human side.
