(Song Copy) Nymph of the Luo River Scroll (Volume 1) - Colophon 3 - Zhao Mengfu
Imagine reading the script of an ancient romantic fantasy, but written by a calligraphy superstar. This long horizontal scroll features the text of the 'Ode to the Nymph of the Luo River,' a famous poem by Cao Zhi about a prince's fleeting, dreamlike encounter with a river goddess. While the original painting by Gu Kaizi visualizes this story with flowing robes and swirling waters, this section showcases the poetic text itself in elegant running script, attributed to the Yuan dynasty master Zhao Mengfu. It captures the ethereal mood of the goddess who 'glided like a dragon' and 'shimmered like the sun through clouds,' serving as a literary companion to one of China's most celebrated visual masterpieces.
