Look at that kick! Egon Schiele was the master of capturing raw, nervous energy, and this woman is a perfect example of his jagged, Expressionist style. She sits in a tangled, almost acrobatic pose, thrusting a dark-stockinged leg high into the air while pointing a finger with an intense, wide-eyed stare that seems to challenge the viewer. Her flushed cheeks and the rough, sketchy lines give her a manic, lively quality that feels incredibly modern. Although Schiele died tragically young in 1918, portfolios of his work like 'Handzeichnungen' were published shortly after (around 1920) to ensure his unique vision survived.
