Self-Portrait with Striped Shirt by Egon Schiele, 1910

Egon Schiele stared right back at himself in 1910 to create this raw, unfiltered self-portrait, a hallmark of the Expressionist movement. Notice the wild, almost electrified hair and the striking patches of orange and red on his pale face, giving him a feverish, intense look. The white shirt is mostly just an outline, but that striped sleeve pops with color, showing how Schiele loved to leave parts of his drawings feeling beautifully unfinished. He was only 20 when he painted this, already developing the jagged, emotional style that would make him famous before his tragic early death.
