Jungle Book
1942
Before Disney's singing bears, there was this intense Swedish poster for the 1942 live-action 'Jungle Book' (titled 'Djungelboken'). It features a young Mowgli brandishing a knife from a tree branch, staring down a roaring tiger while a black panther prowls below. The massive, ghostly green face in the background adds a surreal, dreamlike tension to the composition, typical of the dramatic illustrative style of the 1940s. It’s a fantastic piece of movie history that shows just how exotic and dangerous the jungle was marketed to be back then.
