Service secret
1919
Eric Rohman designed this striking Swedish poster for the 1919 silent film 'Secret Service' (here titled 'Spionen från Richmond'), turning a Civil War spy thriller into a visual spectacle. The image features a bold, sketch-like profile of lead actor Robert Warwick in a Union uniform, set against a sweeping, patriotic backdrop of red, white, and blue that looks like a flag caught in the wind. The German text at the bottom reveals a fun secret: this specific image is a reduced reproduction from a Leipzig catalog, showing how these fleeting cinema advertisements were collected and traded across Europe like baseball cards.
