Cornice with Figurative Ornament 2
Eugen Klimsch designed this 'Kopfleiste' (headpiece) as a decorative header, essentially a 19th-century graphic design template waiting for text. At the center sits an elaborate, swirling frame left deliberately blank, topped by two cherubs who seem to be passing a winged object between them. Flanking this ornament are groups of figures rendered with realistic anatomical detail: a draped woman sits in contemplation on the left, while a couple on the right points eagerly toward the center, directing the viewer's eye to the empty space. The artist used striking white highlights to make the central scrollwork pop against the sepia tones, creating a dynamic study that bridges classical figure drawing with ornate decoration.
