Seated Young Mother with a Cushion on Her Lap
Imagine sitting in Eugen Klimsch's studio in the late 19th century. You'd likely see the artist sketching a young mother, perhaps a model taking a break. In this piece, titled 'Seated young mother with a pillow on her lap,' she looks exhausted but peaceful, cradling a large cushion. The drawing isn't just a portrait; it's a busy workspace. See that floating clenched fist at the top left and the fabric studies at the top right? Klimsch was practicing his anatomy and drapery folds right on the same sheet. It’s a raw, Realist glimpse into the hard work behind a finished painting, focusing on the quiet dignity of everyday life.
