Scroll of Misty Mountains at Autumn Dawn - Painting Core 3
Attributed to the Northern Song dynasty master Fan Kuan, this sweeping handscroll immerses the viewer in a misty autumn dawn. Towering, craggy peaks dominate the left, dotted with tiny pagodas and pavilions that emphasize the insignificance of humans against nature's grandeur. As the eye travels right, the rugged mountains give way to swirling clouds and a tranquil river valley, showcasing the artist's mastery of atmospheric perspective. Fan Kuan was famous for retreating into the Zhongnan Mountains to observe nature directly, often sitting in the snow or mist for hours to capture the true spirit of the landscape.
