Lot and His Daughters
Lot and his two daughters are depicted hiding in a cave in this dramatic Baroque scene, fleeing the destruction of Sodom. Believing they are the last survivors on Earth, the daughters are shown here getting their elderly father thoroughly intoxicated to ensure the continuation of their family line. Torelli uses intense lighting to highlight the daughters' determined expressions and Lot's vulnerable state as he drinks from the bowl. It's a pretty wild story of survival and questionable morals, capturing the high drama typical of the era!
