Our Women
Ferdinand Bac's cover for the album 'Nos Femmes' (Our Women) captures the flirtatious spirit of turn-of-the-century Parisian life. A glamorous woman with curly hair and an enormous hat trimmed in red ribbons lounges confidently on a bench, hands behind her head, while a mustachioed gentleman in a formal suit stands behind her, casually smoking. The bold, arching black letters announce this 'Album en couleurs' (color album), published by H. Simonis Empis with a preface by Maurice Donnay. Bac, a French artist and writer known for his witty observations of society, uses this illustration to set a playful, slightly risqué tone for the collection of fashionable women inside.
