Velodrome De L'est by Ferdinand Misti-Mifliez

Step right up to the Belle Époque! This vibrant Art Nouveau poster captures the electric atmosphere of a Sunday afternoon at the Velodrome de l'Est in Paris, where cycling was the ultimate extreme sport of the 1890s. While racers zoom around the steep, banked track in the background, the real spectacle is in the foreground: a fashionable crowd decked out in enormous, feathered hats and crisp top hats, treating the race like a high-society party. The sign on the left helpfully directs spectators to the nearest gates, proving that even back then, getting to the stadium required a bit of navigation.
