Le Cancan
Francisco Iturrino captures the electric energy of a Parisian cabaret in this vibrant scene. The central dancer, clad in a massive, ruffled white skirt that seems to take on a life of its own, dominates the canvas as she performs the scandalous Cancan. Her black hat and red accents pop against the frothy white fabric, while the background buzzes with the warm, golden glow of gaslight and the blurred faces of an eager audience. Iturrino, a close friend of Matisse, uses loose, energetic brushstrokes typical of Post-Impressionism to make the whole scene feel like it's moving to a fast rhythm.
