E.L. Music Bookplate
1911
Franz von Bayros designed this 1911 piece as a 'Musikexlibris,' a decorative bookplate meant to mark the owner's music library. The scene is intensely dramatic: a man grapples with a massive eagle on his back while a woman in dark, flowing drapery kneels before a stone monument. That monument holds a portrait medallion—likely a revered composer—framed by heavy, drooping floral garlands. At the bottom, musical staves and German text reveal the piece's purpose, blending Bayros's signature dark, romantic symbolism with a personal tribute to music.
