A Glance Exchanged
In this lively garden scene, a young waitress pauses mid-stride, clutching a copper jug and a tray, to share a secret glance with a gentleman seated at a nearby table. Kaemmerer captures the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees, illuminating her crisp white apron and the bustling outdoor café atmosphere. The scene feels like a stolen moment from a pleasant afternoon in 19th-century France, full of flirtation and social chatter. It is a perfect example of how artists of the time loved to paint everyday life and fleeting interactions.
