The Circus
Georges Seurat captured the dazzling energy of a circus performance using his signature pointillism technique, where thousands of tiny dots of color blend together in your eye. The unfinished masterpiece features a graceful equestrienne balancing on a galloping white horse, while acrobats tumble and the audience watches in stiff, formal rows. Seurat was working on this very canvas when he died suddenly at just 31, leaving the edges rough and the scene forever frozen in a moment of vibrant, dotted motion.
