Portrait of a woman reading with a dog
Gerda Wegener captures a cozy, intimate moment featuring a stylish woman with a chic grey bob and a vibrant red scarf lounging in bed. While her small white dog dozes peacefully on her lap, she seems momentarily distracted from her book, gazing off to the side with a look of quiet contemplation. Wegener was a Danish illustrator famous for defining the glamorous 'New Woman' of the 1920s, often painting bold, fashionable figures with a distinct Art Deco flair. She is also historically significant for her marriage to Lili Elbe, a pioneering story of love and gender identity that later inspired the film *The Danish Girl*.
