North Elevation and Ground Plan of the Alexander Palace at Tsarskoe Selo by Giacomo Quarenghi, 1792-96

Giacomo Quarenghi designed this grand Neoclassical palace for the future Tsar Alexander I, giving it a sleek, elongated look that was all the rage in late 18th-century imperial Russia. The top view shows off a massive colonnade stretching across the facade, while the floor plan below reveals a clever layout with a central ceremonial hall flanked by two long residential wings. It looks like a fancy architectural blueprint, but this place eventually became the tragic final home of the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II, before the revolution.
