The Domes (Versailles) Landscape
Giovanni Boldini captures a whimsical, sun-drenched day at Versailles, where elegantly dressed figures in 18th-century attire gather on a stone terrace beneath a sweeping blue sky. Notice the loose, energetic brushstrokes in the foliage—Boldini was a master of making paint look like it was applied in a single, breathless moment. Though he's most famous for his sleek, glamorous portraits of high society, here he lets his hair down with a playful, almost Impressionistic scene of leisure and romance, complete with a classical statue looking on.
