Trees In The Bois De Boulogne
Boldini, best known for his dashing society portraits, takes a breath of fresh air in this lively watercolor of Paris's famous Bois de Boulogne park. Notice how he captures the fleeting light of autumn with quick, energetic brushstrokes and splashes of warm gold and cool green, leaving much of the paper bare to let the scene breathe. It's a perfect example of his Impressionist side, showing that even a master of high-society fashion knew how to paint a casual stroll in the woods. The loose pencil lines peeking through the paint give it a wonderful, spontaneous feel, as if he sketched it right there on a breezy afternoon.
