Susanna and the Elders
Imagine stepping into a garden bath only to find two old men spying on you—that's the awkward and terrifying moment Giovanni Lanfranco captures here. The biblical figure Susanna twists away in shock, clutching her sheet, while the elders lurk behind a stone railing; one points excitedly, the other shushing him like a conspirator. It's a classic Baroque drama, full of tension, movement, and that signature theatrical lighting that makes the scene feel like a frozen movie scene.
