Madonna in Prayer

Giuseppe Nuvolone brings a sense of quiet intimacy to this Baroque depiction of the Virgin Mary. Notice how the light seems to glow from behind her, acting like a natural halo that draws your eye straight to her peaceful expression. With her hands clasped over an open book—probably the Bible—she looks like she's just paused mid-prayer. It's a classic 'Madonna in Prayer' pose, a super popular theme in the 17th century that was all about showing personal, emotional devotion rather than just stiff religious iconography.

Technique: Oil painting
