Domestic cat eating while two kittens play
1820-1860
Meet the 'Raphael of Cats,' Gottfried Mind, a Swiss artist so obsessed with felines that he earned this royal nickname in the 19th century. In this charming scene, a plump mother cat is completely zoned out, happily munching on a meal while two energetic kittens wrestle and play right behind her legs. It’s a perfect slice of domestic life that captures the chaotic energy of a cat family—mom just wants her peace and quiet, while the babies are ready for trouble. Mind’s incredible attention to fur texture and anatomy made his cat portraits famous across Europe, proving that even before the internet, people were absolutely obsessed with cat art.
