Domestic cat on a stool playing with three kittens
1820-1860
Swiss artist Gottfried Mind, affectionately known as the 'Raphael of Cats,' had an uncanny ability to capture feline personality. Here, a mother cat perched on a stool playfully bats at her kittens below, who are busy chasing a string and looking up in adoration. Mind spent years observing cats in Bern, Switzerland, often sketching them in his studio. His charming, lifelike drawings became incredibly popular in the 19th century, inspiring prints like this one that perfectly capture a chaotic, playful family moment.
