La guerra contro i ratti
Swiss artist Gottfried Mind, famously nicknamed the 'Raphael of Cats,' captures a chaotic domestic battle in this Romantic-era scene titled 'La guerre aux Rats' (The War on Rats). Five felines are scattered across a rustic wooden floor, fiercely hunting a scurry of rats—one white cat even proudly displays a rodent in its mouth while a calico pounces on another! Mind was a self-taught artist with a deep obsession for cats, often sketching them from life in the streets of Bern, and this piece highlights his incredible ability to freeze their playful, predatory movements in time.
