Im Sonnenschein
Gustav Kampmann's 'Im Sonnenschein' (In the Sunshine) creates a striking contrast that feels almost ironic. Despite the cheerful title written in the bottom right corner, a massive, textured black sky dominates the upper half, looming over rolling fields of gold and green that seem to glow. A flock of birds streaks diagonally across the darkness, leading the eye through a landscape that blends Impressionist sensitivity to light with a bold, graphic mood, leaving viewers to wonder if a storm is coming or going.
