L’’Attente
from Tree of Life
Gustav Klimt designed this striking figure, titled 'Expectation,' as part of the Stoclet Frieze for a lavish Brussels palace built for a wealthy banker. She stands rigid in a dress composed of colorful, overlapping triangles, gazing out against a swirling background of hypnotic spirals that seem to pulse with energy. This piece is a prime example of Symbolism and the Vienna Secession style, where geometric shapes meet organic curves to create a sense of waiting and anticipation. The palace itself was so groundbreaking that it later became a UNESCO World Heritage site.
