Communism Equals Soviet Power plus Electrification
1930
Gustav Klutsis takes Lenin's famous slogan and turns it into a visual powerhouse in this 1930 poster. A bold, black silhouette of Lenin points decisively toward the future, standing atop a massive, photomontaged turbine that looks ready to power the entire Soviet Union. The background is a mix of industrial grit and optimistic graphs, shouting about electrification and five-year plans with the visual energy of a machine in overdrive. It's propaganda, sure, but it's also a masterpiece of graphic design that makes heavy industry look like a superhero origin story.
