Un anciano con botella y vaso
1879
Gustav Wentzel captures a quiet, intimate moment in this 1879 drawing, showing an elderly man with a thick, textured beard gazing down as a drink is poured into his glass. The artist, a key figure in Norwegian realism, focuses on the everyday life of ordinary people rather than grand historical scenes. You can almost feel the weight of the man's years in the deep lines of his face and the gentle way he holds his glass. It's a masterclass in capturing human character through simple, unposed moments.
