Houses at Argenteuil by Gustave Caillebotte, 1883

Gustave Caillebotte captures a quiet, sun-drenched street scene in Argenteuil, a popular retreat for Impressionist painters just outside Paris. Notice the thick, textured brushstrokes on the weathered wall and the vibrant green door, which contrast beautifully with the lush, dappled foliage of the trees behind it. Though often overshadowed by his friends Monet and Renoir, Caillebotte was not only a talented painter but also the wealthy patron who funded many of their famous exhibitions. He even bought their paintings when no one else would!
