메데이아와 야손
1900
Gustave Moreau, a master of the Symbolist movement, brings Greek mythology to life with incredible, almost obsessive detail. In this scene, the sorceress Medea and the hero Jason stand triumphantly atop the slain dragon that guarded the Golden Fleece. Medea raises her wand high, looking like the true power behind the operation, while Jason stands beside her draped in the dragon's skin. The intricate background, filled with ornate columns and mysterious birds, creates a dreamlike atmosphere typical of Moreau's style. Fun fact: Moreau was actually a teacher to Henri Matisse, though his own mystical, detailed style was very different from the bright, bold colors Matisse later became famous for.
