달팽이
1953
Henri Matisse created these playful, swirling spirals in 1953, capturing the essence of a snail's shell without ever painting a literal bug. During his final years, illness confined him to bed, leading him to famously shift to 'painting with scissors' to create his monumental cut-out collage also titled The Snail. These vibrant red and blue loops, outlined in delicate pencil, show his joyful experimentation with pure color and form right up to the end of his life. It's a delightful reminder that even when physically limited, an artist's imagination can still spin wild, colorful tales.
