Umano spaventato
1906
This haunting illustration captures a moment of pure terror, showing a disheveled figure cowering against a dark, crumbling wall while glancing back in fear. The scratchy, intense lines and heavy shadows create a suffocating atmosphere, perfectly capturing the panic of an alien invasion. Created by Brazilian artist Henrique Alvim Corrêa for the 1906 French edition of H.G. Wells' 'The War of the Worlds', these images are considered some of the most chilling sci-fi art ever made. Sadly, Corrêa died of tuberculosis just a few years later at only 34, leaving behind a legacy of nightmare fuel that still holds up today.
